The first 5K for Health was called the Walk for Heart. Held in 1995, it hosted 74 registered walkers. In 2017, the four-mile course was changed to a 5K. In 2023, Cass Community Health Foundation hosted the 29th Annual 5K for Health with 235 registered participants raising nearly $85,000.

“I have personally had the opportunity to attend each of the previous 29 walks that have been held rain or shine since 1995. It’s been a wonderful journey to see the local community participation continue to grow,” Cynthia Randazzo, Cass Community Health Foundation CEO and president said. “To celebrate this 30-year milestone, we have invited all our past 5K event chairs to join and celebrate with us that morning,” Their past involvement has made it possible for us to continue to bring the community together to raise funds for our safety net dental clinics.”

The 30th Annual 5K for Health will raise money for patients at Cass Community Health Foundation’s safety net dental clinic, Cass County Dental Clinic, which serves children and teens in the area. The clinic operates at two locations in Belton and Harrisonville, Missouri. Children ages 0-20 who otherwise couldn’t afford quality dental care are treated at the clinic. The foundation has a goal to raise $100,000 for Cass County Dental Clinic through the 5K for Health. To help meet that goal, participants can join the fun by registering for $40. Everyone who registers will receive the official 30th Annual 5K for Health t-shirt and a numbered bib. Additional prizes will be awarded to anyone raising $150 or more. Walkers and runners are encouraged to create fundraising teams with family and friends to help the foundation meet its fundraising goal. New to the event this year, participants can also register their dogs for free.

Todd Krass, Belton Regional Medical Center CEO, will chair the 5K and Sandy Kessinger of Country Club Bank in Belton will co-chair. Belton Regional Medical Center, Cosentino’s Price Chopper, Pacific Dental Services, Lytle Construction, Belton Regional Medical Center Medical Staff, Belton School District, Feist Charitable Foundation, Raymore Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Cass Regional Medical Center, Electrical Corporation of America, J.E. Dunn Construction Co., Raymore-Peculiar School District, Kenny and Suzette Southwick, UMB Financial Corporation, and Milberger Pest Control are serving as top sponsors of the event.
